My Top Ten Picks For “Fashion’s Night Out” *NY TONIGHT*

As many of you fashionistas might know, tonight is the fashion industry’s most talked about shopping event. Various stores designers and retailers around the globe will be opening their doors extended hours for customers to socialize, sip champagne, eat and admire their new collections for the Fall season. The massive event was created by Vogue in collaboration with other organizations to motivate people to shop again.

 

Of course with any event, many celebrities will be making appearances and some promoting their lines. Here are my ten top picks from fashionnightout.com…

1. OPENING CEREMONY
35 Howard Street (at Crosby Street)
For Fashion’s Night Out 2009, Opening Ceremony will host a festive block party featuring food, music, and special edition merchandise. Gathering inspiration from nearby open air vendors on Canal Street, Opening Ceremony will transform its Howard St. store front into a friendly neighborhood sidewalk shop. Designers and friends of the store will participate, including Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler, Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte, Delfina Delettrez Fendi, Alexander Wang and Scott Sternberg of Boy/Band of Outsiders. Each designer will offer goods made exclusively for Fashion’s Night Out, sold out of the back of custom cars tailored to each designer’s aesthetic. A classic convertible low-rider (Rodarte), a black van (Alexander Wang), and an iconic VW Minibus (Proenza Schouler) will be among the vehicles featured. In addition, shoppers will enjoy DJ sets by O.C. friends as well as food and refreshments from neighborhood vendors.

2.BERGDORF GOODMAN
754 Fifth Avenue (at Fifty-eighth Street)

Zac Posen paints one-of-a-kind creations in the Fifth Avenue windows. 5:30 – 6:30 PM. Padma Lakshmi, host of Bravo’s Top Chef, judges a designer cook-off with Cynthia Rowley, Edward Bess, Gilles Mendel, Lela Rose, Naeem Khan and Peter Som. 6:00 – 7:00 PM. Alexander Wang presents his t-shirts benefitting the September 11 Memorial. 6:00 – 7:00 PM. Guest bartenders Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen mix up the season’s tastiest libations. 7:00 – 8:00 PM. An exhibition of photographs from the book EXTREME BEAUTY IN VOGUE, with special guests curator Phyllis Posnick, Dr. Patricia Wexler, Daria Werbowy and Caroline Trentini. 7:00 – 8:00. André Leon Talley hosts a life-sized version of the new game Fashion Rules!™, with teams led by Donna Karan, Linda Fargo and Robert Verdi. 8:00 – 9:00 PM A conversation with Isaac Mizrahi and tunes by the Ben Waltzer Trio. 9:00 PM. Plus Roopal Patel and Troy Surratt present the Roopal Patel Palette from Le Metier de Beaute. Carlos Falchi presents his exclusive FNO graffiti tote. Designers including Manolo Blahnik, Narciso Rodriguez, Victoria Beckham, and many others will stop by to sign Fashion’s Night Out t-shirts. Music by d.j.s Andrew Andrew, Johnny Dynell and Jon Jon Battle.

3. SAKS FIFTH AVENUE
611 Fifth Avenue (between Forty-ninth and fiftieth Streets)

Saks Fifth Avenue is excited to participate in the first ever “Fashion’s Night Out.” HIGHLIGHTS: Saks will transform its New York Flagship into the evening’s hottest spot, complete with a red carpet and stantions leading the way to the store’s entrances on Fifth Avenue. Many of Saks’s celebrated designers will make personal appearances that evening including Donna Karan— who will inaugurate her new in store shop at 5 p.m. as a kick-off to the evening— Carolina Hererra, Elie Tahari Giuseppe Zanotti, Josie Natori, Peter Som, Ralph Rucci, Geren Ford, Shoshanna Gruss, Kay Unger, the designers of jewelry line Faraone Mennella and many more. The biggest names in beauty such as Aerin Lauder, Bobbi Brown and Fredrick Fekkai will also visit Saks, along with world renowned makeup and beauty artists representing the foremost beauty brands. Customers can look forward to over 1,000 cosmetic giveaways.

4. TORY BURCH
257 Elizabeth Street (between Houston Street and Prince Street)

Tory Burch is hosting a neighborhood block party at her boutique in the Meatpacking District to celebrate Fashion’s Night Out. Deejay Cassidy will be spinning, La Esquina will be barbequing, and the Street Peeper will be snapping pictures of all the guests! The Tory Burch boutique at 257 Elizabeth Street will also be open late for a special evening of champagne and shopping. A limited-edition camouflage tote bag will be given to every customer who makes a purchase that night. Our Tory Burch world charm necklace will be offered exclusively for the event in navy blue and 100 percent of the profits will benefit the Tory Burch Foundation. In addition, the New York boutiques will be selling the Fashion’s Night Out T-shirt and donating 40 percent of those retail sales to the National September 11 Memorial and Museum.

5. H&M
515 Broadway (between Spring Street and Broome Street)

Wanna be on top? Walk the H&M Red Carpet as you get personal runway
lessons from Miss J. Alexander of America’s Next Top Model and styling
tips from our own expert stylists at H&M Herald Square on Thursday,
September 10th from 7-10pm. Enjoy your fabulous new look as you strike
a pose for our paparazzi. Want your 5 seconds of fame? We’ll show the
city your style from a spectacular billboard in the Meatpacking
District.

6. BILLIONAIRE BOYS CLUB & ICE CREAM
456 West Broadway (between Prince Street and Houston Street)

Come down to SoHo, where Pharrell Williams will be ringing up sales at his Billionaire Boys Club & Ice Cream flagship store as well as introducing a few exclusive releases. (Heard Kid Cudi might be performing)

7. GIUSEPPE ZANOTTI
806 Madison Avenue (between Sixty-seventh and Sixty-eighth Street)

Giuseppe Zanotti Design is turning Fashion’s Night Out into an evening of Music & Fashion at our flagship store on Madison Avenue. We will take you on a journey through the world of Giuseppe Zanotti. You will get to view his collaborations with other designers, as well as his own line. And you will be intrigued by a side of him that no one really knows: Giuseppe Zanotti will be the guest deejay of the evening, spinning house music for his customers and friends turning the store into a dance party!

8. BARNEYS NEW YORK
660 Madison Avenue (between Sixtieth Street and Sixty-first Street)

On September 10, Barneys New York at Madison and Sixty-first will be transformed into a street fair of designer personal appearances and creative events. Customers will have the opportunity to shop and mingle with Isabel Toledo, Marcus and David from Rag & Bone, Narciso Rodriguez, Amanda Brooks, Waris, Thom Browne, Jonathan Adler, Lisa Perry, Alexander Wang, the Row’s Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, and many more. In addition to the personal appearances, Barneys will stage a roster of happenings. Wool and the Gang will teach knitting; Lipstick Queen Poppy King will offer “lip readings”; Vogue editor Tonne Goodman will curate a fashion green market; Gianluca Isaia will offer Neapolitan delicacies; Adam Kimmel will show a Gerard Malanga video installation; Loomstate will customize T-shirts; Leonid Khankin will host an Ernst Benz watch trunk show; Alabama Chanin will host a sewing circle; Juan Carlos Obando will give salsa lessons. 9. ALICE + OLIVIA
80 West Fortieth Street (between Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue)

alice + olivia will be hosting two events for Fashion’s Night Out: The alice + olivia Bryant Park boutique will be transformed into a photo studio where modeling hopefuls will have a chance to compete for one of the coveted spots in the always over-the-top alice + olivia Fashion Week presentation the following week. Attendees will be treated to professional hair and makeup as well as wardrobe styling before posing in front of photographer Brian Boulos’s camera. Hopefuls’ photos will be posted on the alice + olivia Web site, where a winner, to be chosen by designer Stacey Bendet and Cheri Bowen, head women’s booker from Marilyn Agency, will be announced the following day.

10. MAGNOLIA BAKERY
401 Bleecker Street (at West Eleventh Street)

Magnolia Bakery is dressing up their classic cupcake by creating a special Fashion’s Night Out Cupcake and donating a portion of proceeds to the 9/11 Memorial Fund.

A limited edition Fashion’s Night Out T-shirt will sold by participating retailers. Forty percent of proceeds will benefit the National September 11th  Memorial and Museum at the World Trade Center.
