Paris Fashion Week S/S 2011: Lanvin

Posted by: bmorton28 on: October 2, 2010

Bravo to the house of Lanvin for such an immaculate collection. Designer, Alber Elbaz hit the nail right on the head with pieces that celebrated the woman’s body. The collection had texture with pleated skirts, jackets of crinkled lightweight fabric and sheaths adorned with knotted drapery. Speaking of details, there was even a section of pagan metalwork  in dresses, skirts and even on the flat sandals that were worn throughout the show. Elbaz also played with colors and prints as the finale featured five African descent models in silky, one shoulder and halter pantsuits.

Paris Fashion Week S/S 2011: Maison Martin Margiela

Posted by: bmorton28 on: October 2, 2010

Talk about wearable art! This collection was all about the designer’s vision of menswear for women…to the extreme. In the beginning of the show, clean button down shirts and floor length skirts were worn with minimal detail. Guess this was suppose to set the tone for what was yet to come which included pleated pants that squared off at the waistline and extreme flat planar dresses and jackets.  I’m sure the collection wanted to capture the signature Margiela style and this show might have just been for press but it didn’t match up to previous collections. It was actually a bit…flat.

Paris Fashion Week S/S 2011: Zac Posen

Bonjour Paris! Zac Posen made a risky move in showing his collection in Paris this time but he not only put on a show, he delivered. Feathers, lace and fur kicked up the signature Zac Posen look a few notches in flouncy jackets and skin tight leggings. The eveningwear embraced the cut-out trend for the season with beautifully draped gowns that left little to the imagination.

Here’s some great pieces:

Milan Fashion Week S/S 2011: Emilo Pucci

Jada Pinkett Smith and Kylie Minogue were just some celebs who entered the Pucci show ready to see some great fashion. The sexy, Mediterranean feel collection was inspired by the Boho-chic theme we have been seeing quite a lot lately but Pucci seemed to take this trend up a few notches in the luxe factor. Dresses were delicate with light material, playful ruffles and cut-out designs. Separates were also stellar with lace up fringe pants and sheer lace front tops. And you can’t have a Pucci show without the swimwear. The classic Pucci print was applied in playful halter bikinis and monokinis. Loved this collection! Check out the video!

Milan Fashion Week S/S 2011: Emporio Armani

Classic, sophistication is just one phrase to say the least about this collection. Emporio Armani always delivers clean lines and beautiful textures that caters to their customers’ every need. There was a metallic story of “futuristic”  pieces, tent tops and layered vests in addition to a green and pink story of pops of palm prints in one-shoulder dresses and halter tops. And oh yes, the infamous tube skirt that was worn throughout the show in various outfits added the “Armani” consistency to the runway!

Milan Fashion Week S/S 2011: Gucci

Sexy is an understatement for Gucci’s Spring 2011 collection! High fashion and provocation were consistent throughout the show. Everything from plunging necklines in bright, complementary colors to neutral, fringe jackets and cover-ups. The accessories were something to talk about too. Strappy heels and wicker-like boots were the main attraction on some looks. Almost every piece kept the theme of  a leather or gold belt to tie the outfit together. Loungey jumpsuits and harem pants of luxurious, shimmering fabric and party dresses of more fringe, metal and beads closed out the show and had many stars lining up to get their hands on these looks for the red carpet.

Here are some favs!

London Fashion Week S/S 2011: Burberry Prorsum

Posted by: bmorton28 on: September 23, 2010

Ah the infamous trench! How far you have come! Burberry has not only reinvented this staple but it is by far what the brand is known to do well. In the Spring 2011 collection, electric colors with muted greys and neutrals were stand outs on sleek silhouettes. Each look with a trench was accented with contrasting accessories. The collection showed Burberry’s tougher side with biker inspired leather jackets, pants, and skirts. With a cropped studded motorcycle jacket, even the flouncy tiered dresses appeared edgier.

London Fashion Week S/S 2011: Twenty8Twelve

Posted by: bmorton28 on: September 20, 2010

Sienna and Savannah Miller pulled their sleeves up this collection. They offered a little bit of everything  for everyone. There were country inspired shirts, flouncy dresses and printed rompers. You could tell the inspiration came from the  Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter album (a jazz infusion album mixed in with the original Joni Mitchell style). The color palette was pleasing to the eye and many of the styles were very wearable.

London Fashion Week S/S 2011: Matthew Williamson

What better way to kick off London Fashion Week other than with the Matthew Williamson collection!  The inspiration: urban bohemian in a exotic destination. Lots of embroidery, fringe detail and corseted dresses and pantsuits. Something Matthew Williamson is known for is the evening wear. Gorgeous lightweight gowns in vibrant colors is where this collection shined.

Gwen’s fashion career has taken the industry by storm and by the looks of this season’s collection, she has finally come into her own. The L.A.M.B. brand is known for the rocker’s Ska influenced style but this time she added much of the African motif. Beautiful leopard, ikat and traditional African prints sashayed down the runway with cool plaid vests and relaxed trousers.
